💔 The Heartbreaking Story of Cherry: Nine Years of Fan Translation, One Girl I’ll Never Forget

🍒 Who Cherry Was

I want to share the story of someone I will never forget. Her name was Cherry, a young girl from Argentina, only sixteen years old. 🍒 She was one of my most loyal readers and a big fan of the manhua I translated.

I’m just a fan translator from Malaysia, and I never imagined that something I worked on from my small corner of the world could reach a young girl halfway across the globe. Yet, through manhua, our worlds became connected in a way I will always cherish. 🌍📖

💗 How She Asked Me to Translate

One day, Cherry personally emailed me and asked if I could translate Hasty Marriage With the Heir. At that time, another fan translator had already started the series, but the quality of the translation left much to be desired.

In her email, she told me she was a young girl suffering from bone cancer and that she wanted to be able to read the story properly. Her words were gentle and sincere, and they stayed with me.

Moved by her courage and her request, I decided to take it on for her. 💖

That was how everything began. From then on, Cherry wrote to me often. She would share her thoughts about the chapters, thank me for updating, and tell me how much the story meant to her. Over time, our emails became a quiet routine—simple messages, but filled with warmth.

🏥 Reading Manhua in the Hospital

Cherry’s life was never easy. When she was only fourteen years old, she was diagnosed with bone cancer. From that moment on, much of her life was spent in hospitals. She didn’t have friends her age, and her days were often quiet, lonely, and filled with pain.

Her only companion was manhua.

She once wrote to me and told me that when she read my translations, she could forget—just for a moment—that she was sick. In those moments, she wasn’t a patient anymore. She was simply a girl enjoying a story she loved. 💭✨

As her illness reached its final stage, Cherry became very weak. There were days when she could no longer move, or even hold the pages herself. Yet, she never stopped wanting to read. When she no longer had the strength, she asked her mother to read the manhua to her.

Her mom would sit by her hospital bed and read my translated chapters aloud, page by page. Even then, Cherry listened quietly, holding on to the story she loved. 📖💔

She always thanked me for updating on time. Back then, I updated every Wednesday without fail. It became something she looked forward to each week—a small, steady source of comfort she could rely on, even during her hardest days. 📅💗

💌 The Email That Broke My Heart

The manhua eventually ended at chapter 533 in 2023. But Cherry never got to see the ending.

Around mid-2022, I received an email. At first, I thought it was from Cherry. But it was from her mother.

Her mom told me that Cherry had passed away peacefully. 💔 In her final moments, Cherry was holding the manhua I had translated. Her mother had printed out the chapters so Cherry could keep them with her, to accompany her until the end.

Her mom thanked me for giving her daughter comfort and happiness, for creating beautiful memories during her final days. I couldn’t stop crying.

I am a mother, and because of that, I felt her pain even more deeply. I could imagine how her mother must have felt—watching her child slip away, powerless, yet trying to stay strong.

Even as a translator, I was deeply moved. Cherry’s story became a constant reminder of why I translate. Because sometimes, even the smallest acts—like translating a chapter—can bring immense comfort to someone’s life. 💖

🌍 Readers From All Over the World

Cherry was not the only one. Over the past nine years, I’ve received emails from readers all over the world—from the United States, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, and many more. 🌏

I remember a girl from the Philippines who told me that my translations were her only entertainment. She came from a poor family, and manhua was the only joy she could afford.

Some readers told me my translations grew up with them—from high school, to university, and now into their working lives. Knowing that my work accompanied people through different stages of life is something I will always treasure. 🌱
